Florian, the founder of Harvest Moon, travelled to South Africa when he was a student. One of the many places he visited was Bulungula – with little idea that he would end up taking a piece of this place home with him.
Long before Florian arrived in Bulungula, a man who lived there had a vision – he wanted to open a hotel. This hotel wasn’t to be run by hired workers from the city, but rather by the local community who, up until that point, hadn’t received any education and were unemployed. He built the hotel with the help of the residents from the village, catered to all their individual strengths and created a company that helped people from the region sustainably provide for themselves and their families.
Florian was utterly captivated by the idea of a commercial enterprise with a social mission embedded in its DNA – and so he founded Harvest Moon.
We want our work to contribute to the well-being of society. And that begins with the raw ingredients we buy. It is extremely important to us that our ingredients are cultivated under humane conditions and are bought at fair prices. This is the only way we can guarantee a product that is aligned with our philosophy. We do good with our products by donating part of the profit. The remaining profit goes towards developing new products that, in turn, lead to more donations – adding the final link to the self-sustaining chain.
